Gare du Nord

Not the most exciting arrondisement except one does arrive at the Gare du Nord by Eurostar from London. Try two longtime favorite restaurants, Brasserie Flo at 7 cour des Petites-Ecuries (go there for its la formidable choucroute, a heap of sauerkraut garnished with everything), and Julien, 16 rue du Faubourg St-Denis (called the poor man’s Maxim’s because of its belle époque interiors and moderate prices.)

Canal St Martin

The  Canal St Martin passes through the 10th. This waterway, 4.5 Kms long, dug at the tie of the Restoration to link the Ourcq Canal at Villette with the Seine via l’Arsenal are still navigated by numerous barges. The raised level of the watercourse straddled with iron walkways, its nine locks and rows of trees, make for an unusual, serene Paris landscape.

St Louis Hospital

The  St Louis Hospital is one of the oldest hospitals in Paris. St Louis pioneered the science of dermatology. The brick and stone buildings, reminiscent of the Place des Vosges and Dauphine with their steeply pitched roofs and dormer windows are separated by flowered courtyards
