Le Darnetal is a delightful romantic restaurant on the corner of the pretty Place Darnetal in Montreuil. The decor is cosy with red table-cloths, a colourful array of pictures, flower arrangements and soft lighting. The extensive collection of caps hanging from the ceiling belong to Jean-Paul Vernay, the ‘patron’ who is an avid rugby fan. His daughter is an England supporter!
The wine list includes an excellent Gigondas (2000) for 38 Euros, a 2002 Crozes Hermitage for 30 Euros and a 1998 La Croix des Trois Soeurs from Saint Estephe for 28 Euros which drank very well and is available in a half bottle for 16 Euros.

For 25 Euros includes such delights as St Jacques, Escargots et Grenouilles ? la creme d’ail and Magret de Canard or Rognons de Veau whereas the ‘Menu Gastronomique’ for 34 Euros offers such treats as Foie Gras de Canard, Warm Oysters in Champagne,( a house speciality) and Cote de Boeuf sur le grill with a Sauce Bearnaise ( for 2) or Medaillons de Lotte a l’americane. Both menus have an excellent and varied choice of six starters and six main courses followed by a cheese board and finally one of the delicious deserts.
